Parts of You
Dedicated to my Mother, Tina S. Childs

There are so many treasured parts of you I love so deeply

Knitted together by God’s hands and telling the most breathtaking story

Every part serving a grand purpose

Blended together to showcase God’s true testament to His love for you

Your mind, full of power and soulful wisdom

Thoughts that planted seeds of positivity now blossoming into the most incredible beliefs and values in me

Intelligence beyond compare and an indescribable amount of creativity

Your eyes, so big, brown, and full of depth

A vision for life full of endless possibilities

Seeing beyond the surface to always see what’s authentic

Always seeing the real me and my potential in the woman I was becoming

Your voice, robust and firm yet gentle and sweet

You spoke life into everyone around you

Singing songs of God’s praise with an enchanting melody Caressing my soul and always uplifting me

Your hands, smooth and yet sometimes rough

Because you were never afraid to do the Lord’s work He called you to do

So many masterpieces fabricated, so many things got done selflessly

I loved holding onto them throughout the years, the sweetest reminder you were with me

Your curvy physique, a silhouette of womanhood with great strength and grace

You held me time and time again and I just loved your body’s full embrace

Hips moving to their own beat as you walked, dancing in their own groove

Bearing me when I was in your womb and now empowering me to appreciate my own body

Your feet, walking the path of righteousness, footsteps imprinted in the sand

You walked with such poise in a praiseworthy fashion

Making it so easy to follow your lead

Reminding me to seek Him first in all I do, knowing He will always guide me

But above all, my dear mother, your spirit is my most favorite part of you

Mmm so radiant and full of God’s warmth

A flame that kindles peace, a true beacon of hope

Delighting my soul when I needed you that continues to have this everlasting glow

A vigorous wildfire of brilliant light spreading the Lord’s joy

So even though I won’t be able to see your face

Nor hug you with the warmest embrace

It’s your virtuous spirit that will forever be etched on my heart intricately

Because it’s the part of you that will always be a part of me

Broken

Shattered

Piece by piece

Some small

Some wide

With their sharpened edges

and chiseled cracks

No longer formed but now broken

No longer shaped but now dismantled

Strength feels gone

Hope seems lost

The battered soul injured over and over again

Now without form

Gathered

Piece by piece

Some large

Some narrow

With their cracked edges brought together

And bonded borders

No longer broken but now formed

No longer dismantled but now shaped

Renewed in strength

Hope now found

The injured soul mended by the potter’s delicate hands

Now with form

Once seen

No blemish in site

Now tells a story

with those mended cracks

What could have been discarded

Now renewed

Polished

A striking beauty like never before

A history

A future

A patient sacrifice

An enduring love

A masterpiece of the soul

Restored

Piece by piece

and no longer... broken
